Autism Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or autism is a general term that people use to describe a series of complex brain development disorders. This disease affects a person’s social skills and causes the brain to react differently in social situations than most peoples. Autism is most commonly found in a child’s first 3 years of their life, but it is not uncommon for an adult to be diagnosed with autism. ASD affects more than 2 million people in the United States alone. It is said that there is a 1 in 42 chance of autism in boys, and a 1 in 168†¦show more content†¦Most parents and caregivers are more than willing to do whatever it takes to get their child the help they need to better adapt to this disorder. Depending on the situation, not all parents are affected so drastically as others and there are plenty of rewarding things that come with caring for a sick child. (Autism Speaks). There are very few adults who are diagnosed with autism in their adult life. This is because doctors have a hard time believing adults who come in and say that they think they’re autistic. Besides, diagnosing someone with autism usually happens within the first 3 years of their entire life. The reason why some adults are diagnosed as adults is that their parents probably never noticed enough of the symptoms when they were a child and they just fell through the cracks of getting screened for it. Although there are few adulthood diagnosis’ there are still the children who grow up and continue to battle their autism into adulthood. Entering adulthood when a person is autistic is very hard. Many students have trouble getting into college or any form of higher education, some have trouble getting and keeping a steady job and some cases are so severe that the person cannot even live alone without a caregiver. The public school that autistic children go to are responsible for providing care and services for that child until they are 22 years of age.
